Enjoy an excellent cup of coffee at Black Iron Coffee Roasters, an independent and locally-owned coffee shop. In addition, you can experience an outstanding dinner at Diamonds Steak and Seafood or a craft beer or cocktail at 2FOG's Pub, a speakeasy-themed pub with excellent American fare.

Shopping options downtown include the Heart of Michigan Shop, a unique gift shop that focuses on incredible gift baskets that feature products made in Michigan. This is the go-to place to find the perfect gift for a friend, family member, or co-worker. Another local gift shop is the Dragonfly Emporium; this shop features unique beauty products, whimsical items, home décor, and accessories.

Outside of town are the Tanger Outlets, built-in 1996; the mall draws people from all over the region for great shopping and dining. Stores in the outlet include a large selection of the national brands we have all grown to love. The outlet also has a small park and a putt-putt golf course.

Between the outlets and the downtown area, you will find Tomato Brothers. The restaurant has been in business for over 60 years and is known for its mix of cuisines. Here, you can find classic Italian, Greek, and Mexican dishes along with traditional American and English cuisine.

Howell has more than just fantastic shopping; the community is fond of getting together and hosts many events throughout the year. A favorite location to gather is the Howell Opera House, a historic theater built in 1881. The theater hosts many concerts, exhibits, and other events.

For outdoor activities, residents enjoy spending time at the Howell Nature Center, featuring a teaching zoo, nature scape, and a tree house. The park also offers multiple summer camps and other fun activities.

Howell residents love celebrating, and there are many community festivals and events throughout the year. The Michigan Challenge Balloon Festival is a favorite among locals and draws in people from all over the state. Attendees can experience balloon rides, a carnival, and a balloon glow event where the balloons get inflated at night, and onlookers enjoy the glow that takes over the night sky.

Another well-loved festival is the Howell Melon Festival, which has food items and events that focus on everything melon. Enjoy melon ice cream, other melon-themed treats, and various food vendors serving local fare. Attendees can also participate in the melon golf scramble, the melon ball, and a 5K run. Additionally, there is a parade, concerts, and a classic car show.

Celebrate the holidays in style at the Fantasy of Lights. The annual event features a parade, a 5K race, and a costume contest. In addition, local shops and restaurants offer specials and unique items during the celebration.
